Our Story
Barringwood
Barringwood’s story began in 1993, when the first vines were planted on the site of a former sawmill in Lower Barrington, Tasmania. At the time, Tasmania had just 280 hectares under vine. Since then, plantings have grown more than 650%, and while still representing less than 1% of Australia’s total wine grape crush, the state has earned global recognition for its exceptional cool climate table and sparkling wines.
Over the years, Barringwood has grown from a small vineyard into one of Tasmania’s most admired wine producers, with additional vineyard plantings in Cranbrook and Evandale, and 33 hectares of vines established by 2016. The estate has consistently maintained a 5-star rating from James Halliday’s Wine Companion, earning critical acclaim for its elegance, precision and sense of place.
